What are some of the computer skills middle aged employee’s need to learn the most to keep up with technology?

Posted by admin on September 4, 2008
I want to create a class to offer middle aged men and women that would beef up their computer literacy skills so that they will still be able to market themselves should they find themselves unemployed. I am curious as to what you think those basic skills are and how important each skill would be to someone who might find themselves on the wrong side of the digital divide with technology should they loose their job?

    They should know how to use Microsoft Office and operating systems like Windows XP since it is used in many homes, schools, offices, and etc…there are many good free tutorials for that:

    Windows XP and Vista and MS Office:

    Top-Windows-Tutorials is great website for learning about Windows XP and Vista, how to protect your computer with antivirus and firewall, backing up your files and data, etc.

    Various tutorials for MS Office:

    If they want some hands on experience and practice using Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint then they can get the Kingsoft Office 2007 Free Personal suite version.

    -FREE
    -Compatible with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint
    -Kingsoft Office 2007 menu interface is SIMILAR to the one for MS Office 2003

    The installation file is stored in a zip file so you will need a program like Winzip or ExtractNow ( which you can get from or ) to unzip the file and extract the installation program for the Kingsoft Office 2007 Free Personal Edition.

    ExtractNow:=&filter=

    Here is a website that gives more information about the Kingsoft Office 2007 free version:
