   I don’t think she’s quite as good in English as she is in Spanish. Her lyrics in Spanish are more soulful and better written than in English. She actually tells stories and is quite a wordsmith in Spanish. It seems to me her songs in English are more successful because of the melodies than the lyrics. I think most people who enjoy her songs in English like them because of their beat, the rhythm and the videos. In a sense I think she’s more of a commercial success in America because she makes people want to dance and look at her than because her words are beautiful. I wish mainstream America would hear her first album in Spanish. Every song in that album is probably just as good, in Spanish, as anything Alanys Morrissette ever wrote and just as funky, bold and inspirational. Viva Shakira!

   I am astonished with Shakira´s songwriting……because her songs……the songs that she has written are always very artistic and original…..and the expressions that she uses in her ballads are not very common, r very unique and because of that her love ballads r not so pathetic or boring as some other ballads from some other famous singers…..and to think that Shakira is not a native English speaker makes it twice as hard for her then other artist…….

   if you look at her lyrics, they’re really really good
   but in her songs, sometimes her accent or whatever is so much that I don’t know what she’s saying
   like in Don’t Bother, she says, “and she’s fat-free” but it sounds like she’s saying “and she’s Huckabee fleet”

   but her words are really good, not just for an English learner

   She is a great songwriter. Even some of her english songs have deep meanings.
