What online resources did you use before Wikipedia?

A question to the internet oldschoolers who might be residing among us – if a quick trip to your local library “gave 0 results for your search” or not enough anyway, what online resources did you most frequently refer to before Wikipedia was born or when it was still doing baby-steps? I know there were hundreds of sites back then on almost any topic on inquiery, but what were your favourite ones and was there anything close to Wikipedia’s immenseness (minus the risk of false information)?

Before I used wikipedia, I used altavista (search engine). I switched to google, but I still use a search engine for a lot of my research – depending on the subject.
Wikipedia is an incredible resource, but you have to know how to use it. Rather than throwing the baby out with the bathwater people need to pay attention to the citations that are given at the bottom of the article and referenced throughout. It wouldn’t be acceptable to cite the wikipedia, but it would be foolish to not use it.

There is always the risk of false information, but in the beginning I used Yahoo. Well, not really, in the beginning I used gopher. There used to be a way to get from the local library, I could get there with telnet, into a gopher server, but that was pre world wide web. Another good way was I had lots of addresses. But then a link to yahoo showed up on the library site and I used it.
I kept using Yahoo longer than I should have, even when Yahoo was using Google. I guess I thought the name was silly. I used library catalogs a lot, you could telnet to them.
Create a video blog
I usually go to google or yahoo answers and then I check wikipedia. I honestly perfer wikipedia because it usually has what I need and want.
