What would be a good minor for mathematics?
Posted by admin on February 8, 2009I’m currently a math major and was wondering if there were any good minor besides computer science. (i just can’t stand programming.) I was thinking about minoring in Physics cause i like science and math. OR should I major in Physics and minor in math? Help….
and also i just can’t seem to find any careers with math besides teaching.

I think you are thinking too narrowly..
what about biology? chemistry?
bioinformatics is a HUGE field, lots of money to be had in it!
chemistry, analytical chemistry.. biochemistry… etc.. so many good paying jobs out there in the bio and chem fields…

I liked science and maths and became a medical statistician…
I now work on clinical trials (research on new drugs in human subjects) which I find fascinating as it feeds my love of science and I still do lots of maths…
I am not 100% sure what major/minor you would need for that in the states (since I’m from the UK and its a different system here) – but it is an alternative career to teaching…
Others you could look at are the obvious ones like being an accountant or an acturist – or in banking. But a huge number of employers are interested in people who have a maths degree…
I would advise you to go and talk to your university careers advisor. They should be able to give you lots of options in terms of careers and when you have an idea about which one you like the sound of most you can look at which would be the best minor to go with that…

one approach would be
the smallest possible “non-zero” enrolment in maths
